Col Michael S. Murphy is a Senior Policy Analyst at the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict (ASD SO/LIC).

Col Murphy received his commission from Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB, AL in 2004. His aviation career began at Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB, OK. After graduation, he was assigned to the 16th Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, FL to fly the AC-130. He then served two staff assignments with USSOCOM. Afterwards, Lt Col Murphy served as a fellow with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) at Arlington, VA, and went on to earn his graduate degree at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies (SAASS) at Maxwell AFB, AL. He returned to Cannon AFB to command at multiple echelons, including a squadron and  deployed group. Prior to his current position, Colonel Murphy graduated from the Eisenhower School for National Resourcing and Strategy, National Defense University.
