Bryan E. Herdlick, Ph.D.

Bryan “Chum” Herdlick is a member of the Principal Professional Staff at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) and serves as Program Manager for Naval Aviation Systems in the Force Projection Sector.  His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, a MS in Applied Physics, and a BS in Electrical Engineering.  He is also a graduate of the US Navy Test Pilot School and the Naval War College.  His career in the military spanned operational, flight-test and weapon-and-tactics instructor tours in the F-14 Tomcat, and also included DoD Acquisition tours on the OPNAV staff and in the Navy’s Air-to-Air Missile Program Office at NAVAIR.  His current projects are focused on the exploration of combat decision-making and war-fighter proficiency, with applications in the design of tactical decision-aids, proficiency-enabled constructive models, and extension of aircrew behavior models to manned-unmanned teaming initiatives.
