ARLINGTON, VA – Defense Secretary Mark Esper thanked defense contractors and their employees Wednesday in a letter that recognized their “focus and dedication to maintaining the United States’ unrivaled defense industrial base” during the COVID-19 virus crisis and promised continued support for their health and welfare, the Pentagon announced.

In the May 4 letter, Esper said President Trump as well as state and local leaders “praise your hard work, sacrifice and positive mindset.” The entire letter is available here.

“You are engaged in a critical mission, and thanks to your efforts, we will carry on supporting the warfighter, as well as our allies and partners, in the midst of a global health crisis,” Esper said. “Each of you play a crucial part in the fight against COVID-19 and in maintaining the winning spiritacross the supply chain.”

Esper vowed continued support from the Defense Department, both in protecting workers’ health and paychecks with efforts to pay contractors quickly. “Our priority continues to be protecting people while also ensuring readiness,” he said. “Please stay safe, stay healthy and keep up the great work. We are in this together.”
