Human Systems

Human Systems Division

Mission

To promote the exchange of technical information and discussions between government, industry, and academia, and the expansion of research and development in areas related to the human as a system whose performance must be integrated into any system of systems. To this end, the Human Systems Division will serve as an infrastructure by providing a variety of ways for government, industry, and academia to act in concert to advance human systems performance in air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace environments through research, education, and consultation.

Objectives

  • Advocate human-centered research and the integration of cognitive and biological technologies to optimize and protect the warfighter’s capabilities to successfully operate in air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace environments

  • Promote discussions about the circumstances that make the “human factor” a top priority in Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E). Advocate the implementation of human-centric principles (capabilities and limitations) in the design of products and technologies for applications in all physical domains.

  • Conduct studies and prepare reports in response to requests from the DoD HS Community of Interest (COI) to recommend solutions to specific problems or issues related to human performance in complex systems.

  • Advocate, lead, and influence increased discussion and research on the elements of the human-system integration (HSI) domain such as; Manpower, Personnel, Training, Safety, Suitability, Habitability, Occupational Health (including operational medicine), Environment, and Human Factors Engineering.
