This event has concluded! Recording and slides coming soon!

Over the last few years, the Department of Defense has kept a sustained focus on modernizing its processes for acquiring software capabilities, to address important goals set by Congress of increasing the pace at which software-enabled capabilities can be deployed. While the work is still ongoing, there has already been a radical change to policies, workforce needs, infrastructure, and practices employed by programs. Central to all of these developments is the paradigm of Agile software development, which is fundamental to many of the practices that have proven so effective in commercial software companies.

This webinar will provide an overview of Agile software development: What is it, and what makes it different from the traditional processes employed in the Defense Department? Why does it matter for developing the complex systems that we depend on for our national security, and better able to field innovative solutions? This webinar will also cover how Agile principles have been instantiated in current policy, ways this affects monitoring acquisition progress, and why these transformations are so important for the Department of Defense despite the challenges involved in making such fundamental changes.
