NDIA lauds Hyten nomination as vice chair of Joint Chiefs of Staff
ARLINGTON, VA -- The National Defense Industrial Association offers this statement on the nomination of Air Force Gen. John Hyten as the next vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:
NDIA congratulates Gen. Hyten on his nomination as vice chair of the Joint Chiefs. He is the right choice at the right time. As leader of U.S. Strategic Command, he made his message clear: the nation needs a safe, effective nuclear deterrent and strong and viable space-based defense capabilities against emerging threats from other countries. He is keenly watching Russia and China as they advance their systems and sees the need for the United States to match and surpass them. He’ll rightfully bring this concern to the Joint Staff.
Throughout his career, Hyten has focused on space with assignments worldwide and with missions in operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. He's an intensely smart strategic thinker and officer and will be critical to the leadership team taking the helm at the Joint Staff. NDIA encourages Congress to quickly confirm Hyten as the new vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
