NDIA issues statement on the passing of Rep. Elijah Cummings
ARLINGTON, VA -- The National Defense Industrial Association issues this statement on the death of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD):
NDIA offers its condolences on the passing of Rep. Elijah Cummings. We are grateful for his lifetime of service. From his 14 years in the Maryland State House to more than 20 years on Capitol Hill, his was a commitment to public service and to bipartisanship rarely seen in this day and age.
As chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, Cummings saw to it that the constitution was upheld and that the powerful were kept in check. As a member of the House Subcommittee on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, he ensured American waters were safe and the people who police them were well supported and equipped.
He called it his “moral duty” to fight for people.
Cummings stood by his beliefs and fought for those who didn’t have such power. He was a fervent representative of his people, and a sound believer in the basic goodness of America. To his family, colleagues and friends, NDIA extends its sympathy for their loss and wishes them comfort at this sorrowful time.
