NDIA commends Senate passage of defense authorization act
The National Defense Industrial Association has issued this statement regarding the National Defense Authorization Act:
NDIA welcomes the ease with which the Senate passed S.2987, the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019. By a vote of 85-10, the FY 2019 NDAA is one step closer to getting on the desk of the president and signed into law.
As the last half decade’s instability in fully supporting our military has slowly increased the technological edge of our foreign competitors, it is paramount that Congress supports budget stability and respects all stages of the budget process that sustains our men and women in harm’s way. With a topline of $716 billion, the Senate version is a step in the right direction to improve readiness levels lost during sequestration.
However, as conference will need to hash out any differences in the Senate and House versions, NDIA hopes lawmakers continue this momentum to ensure the health of America’s defense industrial base and to support the U.S. warfighter.
