NDIA supports Emily Murphy's nomination for GSA administrator

The National Defense Industrial Association supports Emily Murphy as the next leader of the General Services Administration, the Arlington, VA, organization announced Friday, Sept. 29. 

NDIA is among 15 organizations that signed a letter, dated Thursday, Sept. 28, to Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO) "writing in strong support" of Murphy's nomination, which the White House announced Sept. 1. The senators lead the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. 

The letter called Murphy's acquisition knowledge and experience "unparalleled," and noted small businesses particularly have "benefited from her work to improve the acquisition environment, enabling more small businesses to succeed." 

Murphy has been senior adviser to Timothy Horne, acting GSA administrator, and has been the White House liaison during GSA's transition. She previously was GSA's chief acquisition officer and worked on Capitol Hill as a staffer for the House Committee on Small Business. 

"Murphy's detailed understanding of federal acquisition rules, GSA's important role in federal spending through its schedule program, and the Public Buildings Service will be an asset to the agency," the letter states. "We urge the committee to confirm (Murphy) expeditiously."
