The U.S. National Defence Industrial Association (NDIA) signs a cooperation agreement with the Estonian Defence Industry Association (EDIA).

 

The aim of the Memorandum of Understanding is intended to promote co-operation between the NDIA and the Estonian Defence Industry Association in support of mutual objectives. With the developing globalization of defence related industry, it is clear that international inter-Association recognition and co-operation will reinforce mutual objectives, foster co-operation, and achieve economies of effort.

 

 

This week, Estonian defence industry companies will be touring the United States with the aim of intensifying cooperation with the defence industry there. The Estonian defence industry delegation’s programme partially overlaps with that of Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Taavi Rõivas, who is currently on an official visit to the United States.

 

Estonian companies operating in the field of defence are focusing more and more on export markets, offering world-class competence in smart technologies, cyber and data security, border defence and modern military technology.

 

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Taavi Rõivas: “The fact that Estonia and the United States are close allies in security provides a solid foundation for mutual cooperation in the defense industry. One of the main objectives of the visit is to lay this foundation for the Estonian defense industry enterprises.”

 

According to Kuldar Väärsi, Chairman of the Management Board of the Estonian Defence Industry Association, cooperation with the U.S. National Defense Industrial Association will open many new opportunities for cooperation with large international industries, which will hopefully result in innovative product development as well as successful sales transactions. “Entering the U.S. market is not simple and the aim of the current cooperation document is to intensify the exchange of information between the defence industries of the two countries. This will give Estonian companies new export opportunities for their goods and services,” said Väärsi.

 

Kuldar Väärsi, Chairman of the Management Board of the Estonian Defence Industry Association: “Estonia and the United States are currently engaged in successful cooperation regarding the monitoring of national borders of different countries. The United States has commissioned Defendec, producer of autonomous and fully automated land border monitoring systems, to supply technology developed in Estonia to a number of third countries.”

 

The Estonian defence industry is developing into a world leader in the field of both cyber defence and smart technologies, with the company’s main ambition being its focus on smart solutions with the highest added value.

 

Estonian defence industry companies will join the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Taavi Rõivas, during his visit to the United States this week.
