DoD spending heat maps

DIB in your District

The defense industrial base has significant presence within Alabama’s 2nd District (AL 2). Industrial base spending over fiscal years 2021, 2022, and 2023 was greater than $4 billion, with contracts from numerous different businesses. During this period, the awardees of the largest efforts were Austal USA, Dell Marketing, and Northrop Grumman Technical Services.

AL 2 is also the home to Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex. Maxwell-Gunter, as it is colloquially known, is the home of more than 12,500 military and civilian employees. Maxwell-Gunter is home to Air University, a major component of Air Education and Training Command and is the center of the Air Force’ Joint Professional Military Education. The 908th Flying Training Wing recruits, organizes, and trains Air Force reservists for war time availability and deployment.
