Arlington, VA., May 18, 2017

The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) presented Dr. Wanda M. Austin with its 2017 James Forrestal Industry Leadership Award on May 18, in recognition of her lifetime of work in satellite and payload system acquisition.

NDIA also hailed Dr. Austin for her efforts toward promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning for the next generation.

Dr. Austin, who retired as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Aerospace Corporation, leveraged her position to support numerous programs related to math and science education. MATHCOUNTS, US FIRST Robotics, and Change the Equation – each renowned for providing direction to young future engineers and scientists – all benefited from Dr. Austin’s work in their behalf.
Dr. Austin’s accomplishments exemplify the qualities of integrity, leadership, public service, and dedication to national security represented by the 2017 James Forrestal Industry Leadership Award.
