Bio

CDR Rob Gorman is a native of Marblehead, MA. In 2007 he graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and received his commission.

His first few assignments included deck watch officer aboard USCGC THETIS, Executive Officer aboard USCGC PEA ISLAND, and Intelligence Watch Officer at the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S). CDR Gorman then assumed duties as the Commanding Officer of USCGC DRUMMOND located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

After attending postgraduate school for electrical engineering, CDR Gorman reported to Command, Control, Communications Engineering Center (C3CEN) as a section chief in the Navigation Core Technology (CT-N). In the last year of this assignment, he helped establish the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, and Intelligence Service Center (C5ISC) where he served as the first Deputy Branch Chief for the Sensors and Electronics Branch in the Engineering Services Division. He then reported to the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters Office of Cyberspace Forces (CG-791) where he worked on developing and implementing the Coast Guard’s Cyber Strategy.

CDR Gorman is currently serving as the Communications Product Line Manager at the C5I Service center where he provides lifecycle support of tactical communications across the radio frequency (RF) spectrum to support Coast Guard operations worldwide.

CDR Gorman holds a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California San Diego, a Master of Science Degree in Cyber Operations from the University of Maryland, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. In addition to receiving his Permanent Cutterman designation, CDR Gorman’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, CG Commendation Medal, CG Achievement Medal, CG Special Operations Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, and various other personal and unit awards.

He currently lives in Suffolk, VA with his wife Bridget and daughter Malin.
