Bio

Mr. Smith assumed the position of Director, SAPCO in April 2022.  He is responsible for providing oversight and management of DARPA Program Security efforts ranging from Unclassified to Special Access Programs.  As Director, Mr. Smith manages a team of security professionals that include the Deputy SAPCO, 7 PSOs, and 72 SETA Contractors in support of DARPA’s mission. 

Prior to assuming the SAPCO position, Mr. Smith served as a DARPA PSO from 2009-2022 providing multi-discipline security oversight and management for several Technology Offices, special projects, and joint service efforts such as, Assault Breaker II, Technology Development Working Group, Aerospace Innovation Initiative, and the Air Dominance Initiative.

From 2006-2009 Mr. Smith served as a National Reconnaissance Office PSO supporting the Advanced Systems and Technology Directorate (AS&T). He provided the daily security oversight for a program office of 20 personnel that was charged with developing requirements for future advanced Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance platforms.

From 2004-2006 Mr. Smith served as a Program Protection Lead with Northrop Grumman IT TASC supporting DARPA and NRO classified efforts.

From 1997-2005 Mr. Smith served in the United States Army as a Counter-Intelligence Agent/Security specialist.  During this time, he was responsible for providing real world actionable intelligence obtained within Task Force Area of Operations to answer Commander’s Priority Intelligence Requirements.
