Bio

Dr. Barry A. Humphrey is a Program Manager within the Defense Logistics Agency’s Research and Development (R&D). His program, the Logistics Technology Research Program leverages advanced technologies, such as, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Blockchain, Augmented Reality, and Quantum Computing to improve Warfighter support, based on DLA strategic guidance for improving key DLA business functions, such as data analytics, database security, supply chain risk management, and supply chain security. The three pillars of his strategic focus are to improve and automate DLA’s processes for key decision points, mitigate risks to the supply chain, and leverage advances in commercial best practices.

Prior to his role in R&D, Dr. Humphrey was the IT Business Relationship Manager (BRM) for DLA Energy. As the BRM, Dr. Humphrey was responsible for planning, organizing, and directing customer support actions to assigned Mission Subordinate Command (MSC) . Dr. Humphrey has also held positions as an Information Technology Specialist (Information Security) for U.S. Army Cyber Command at Fort Belvoir, providing incident response to the Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN) supporting over 100 Department of Defense and Federal Government agencies. He also served as the IT Project Manager and Customer Support Specialist with the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Chicago, IL, providing project management, telecommunications support, network security, and Tiers II and III Helpdesk support for over 8,000 employees and nine Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) for VA Region 2.

Dr. Humphrey is a retired Army Officer who began his career in 1994 as an Aircraft Armament Systems Mechanic with the U.S. Air Force and later transitioned to the Alabama Air National Guard. Afterwards, Dr. Humphrey was then commissioned in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Officer holding numerous positions with multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and later became an Information Systems Manager, working in systems automation, network security, information security/information assurance, knowledge management, network architecture, and gaming and simulation.

Dr. Humphrey received his B.S from Auburn University Montgomery in Molecular Biology, a dual M.A from Webster University in Information Systems Management and Business and Organizational Security Management, and a Ph.D. from Robert Morris University in Information Systems and Communications.
