Bio
Mr. Sorrento, a member of the Senior Executive Service, currently serves as the Director of the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), a high performing operational support organization within the Defense Human Resource Activity, which reports to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness. DMDC maintains the central repository of 58 million records for military, civilians, retirees, family members, and contractors.

DMDC’s three major business lines include: benefits and entitlements, identity management, and decision support. Over 300 employees and 1,500 contractors work in Seaside, CA, Arlington, VA, San Antonio, TX, Fort Knox, KY, or one of two satellite offices in Germany and South Korea. Additionally, DMDC supports worldwide operations of over 2,500 sites issuing ID cards and over 130 bases using its base access control system, which integrates seamlessly with core identity matching services. DMDC’s mission directly supports the security of DoD networks, facilities, and personnel across world for identification of potential fraud and abuse, personnel policies and programs, the delivery of the right benefit to the right person at the right time, and most importantly the national interest goal of supporting a positive life-time relationship with its members and families.

Mr. Sorrento began his federal career in 1990 with the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Disaster Loan Program. He served in numerous supervisory, management, and executive roles prior to being promoted to the Senior Executive Service in 2010. During his career with SBA, Mr. Sorrento deployed for several lengthy field duty assignments to assist victims of onsite in support of direct recovery efforts including the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Northridge earthquake, and several major hurricanes. He is credited with leading several major transformational initiatives that incrementally modernized the disaster loan program towards a customer centric focus with vastly improved responsiveness.

Mr. Sorrento was selected to the position of DMDC Director in November 2016, his third Senior Executive Service appointment within DoD. He previously held the position of Director, Cyber Capabilities and Compliance, U.S. Air Force Chief Information Officer from September 2014 – November 2016 and Chief Information Officer, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller from October 2010 – August 2014.
