Bio

As Carnegie Mellon’s first Strategic Director for National Security & Defense, Shane is responsible for increasing and accelerating the strategic collaboration and transformational research activities between Carnegie Mellon University, the Department of Defense, and the Intelligence Community. Carnegie Mellon University has been a birthplace of innovation since its founding in 1900. Today, Carnegie Mellon University is the youngest of the Top 25 universities across the United States.

Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon in 2016, Shane worked as a dedicated contractor for the Air Force Research Laboratory from 2013 to 2016 supporting the SecureView Program Office and serving as a liaison to NSA’s Commercial Solutions for Classified program. From 2004 to 2013, Shane worked in Business Development and Program Management for General Dynamics and CSC as large system integrators focused on the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.

From 1999 to 2004, Shane worked for Corning Inc. in various roles from strategic planning, to mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital investments. Prior to his career in industry, Shane served on Active Duty in the United States Air Force for seven years and the Air Force Reserves for three years. Shane’s military experience included operational assignments at the 16th Special Operations Squadron (AC-130H), the 78th Fighter Squadron (F-16), and research assignments supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory and DARPA.
