Bio

Andrea N. Goldstein is Senior Policy Advisor for the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Women Veterans Task Force.

Ms. Goldstein served on active duty in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence officer 2010-2016. She spent much of her active duty career overseas in expeditionary and special operations missions. In her final active duty assignment, she served as Analysis & Targeting Troop Commander and Senior Intelligence Officer at Special Reconnaissance Team ONE, leading over 60 special operations and intelligence personnel in concurrent missions, including Combined Joint Task Force-Operation INHERENT RESOLVE countering ISIL in Iraq. Ashore, she served on the staff of NATO Supreme Allied Commander, Transformation as a member of the Commander’s Action Group. As Deputy Gender Advisor, she was responsible for drafting policy pertaining to implementing the UN Security Council’s Women, Peace, and Security agenda for the entire alliance. She is a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

She has published widely and is the contributing author of three books, Invisible Veterans: When Military Women Become Civilians Again, Why We Write: Craft Essays on Writing War and Winning Westeros: How Game of Thrones Explains Modern Military Conflict.

Ms. Goldstein is a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member, former Non-Resident Fellow at the Modern War Institute at West Point, member of the Truman National Security Project, member of the HillVets100 Class of 2019, and Pat Tillman Scholar. She holds degrees from the University of Chicago (A.B. Honors) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (MALD). She proudly hails from the great state of New York.
