VADM Charles B. Martell - David Bushnell Award

Purpose: To provide recognition for technical exceptional contributions in the field of ASW and/or Undersea Warfare technology and/or outstanding achievement(s) in scientific R&D of ASW and/or Undersea Warfare systems.  To support those activities which bring recognition to deserving individuals within the field of ASW and/or Undersea Warfare for their technical contributions to this area vital to our Nation's defense. Toward this end every effort will be made to identify a candidate (or candidates) for the Martell -Bushnell award given annually by the UWD.

 

Nomination criteria include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Exceptional contributions in the field of ASW and/or Undersea Warfare Technology
  • Individual(s) from industry and/or the DoD with at least 20 years’ experience
  • Outstanding achievement(s) in scientific R&D of ASW and/or Undersea Warfare systems.
  • U.S. Citizen

 

Who can Nominate: UWD Executive Board and Advisory Committee members.  NDIA UWD will accept nominations from the Navy Research Laboratories and Warfare Centers via their representatives to the EB.

 

Nomination Process: Nominator prepares a summary document (3-5 pages) which supports the Award Criteria, along with a resume (recommended). A proposed Citation shall be included in the nomination package.  Letter of Support from the Organization’s Technical Director is required.

  

Nomination Period: 1 November – 15 January

 

Evaluation Process: Nominees will be evaluated by the NDIA USW Awards Committee and recommendations will be provided to the full EB for approval.  Selection criteria include:

  • Exceptional technical contributions in the field of ASW and/or Undersea Warfare technology
  • Individual(s) from industry and/or the DoD with at least 20 years’ experience
  • Outstanding technical achievement(s) in scientific R&D of ASW and/or Undersea Warfare systems
  • U.S. Citizen

Notification Process: Upon approval from the EB, all nominating organizations shall be contacted via email within 5 days.  The Award winner shall receive follow-on correspondence to arrange for conference attendance.  Registration fees for the NDIA USW Spring Conference will be waived for the Award Recipient.
