NDIA UWD Industry Bronze Medal Award

Purpose: To recognize outstanding individual achievements in either science or engineering in the field of Undersea Warfare by awarding NDIA Bronze Medals to key individuals in the undersea research and development industrial community engaged in Undersea Warfare related R&D activity.

By recognizing these individual achievements with associated publicity, the Undersea Warfare Division seeks to:

  • Reward industry achievement in the field of Undersea Warfare
  • Inspire accomplishment by other industry workers in the field
  • Increase public awareness of the field and its importance to defense preparedness

Nomination criteria include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Be a US Citizen
  • Be a corporate member of NDIA UWD
  • Have made significant technical contributions of sufficient magnitude and relevance
  • Have made Sustained contributions over time (> 20 years)
  • Be Recognized within the USW community (e.g. external awards, technical committee chairs, patents, publications, etc.)
  • Have exhibited collateral or related technical efforts in the development of USW technical excellence (mentoring, teaching, STEM activity, etc.)

Who can Nominate: The NDIA will solicit nominations from the NDIA UWD Industrial member organization by posting information to the NDIA UWD website.  Additional notifications shall be provided via email to the NDIA UWD Industrial member organization mailing list.  Any UWD member organization in good standing can nominate an individual for this award.

 

Nomination Process: Nominating organization shall prepare a summary document (3-5 pages) which supports the Award Criteria, along with a resume (recommended).  A proposed Citation shall be included in the nomination package.  Letter of Support from the Organization’s Technical Representative (e.g. Technical Director, CEO, CTO, Engineering Director) is required.

Nomination Period: 1 April – 30 June

 

Evaluation Process: Nominees will be evaluated by the NDIA USW Awards Committee and recommendations will be provided to the full EB for approval.  Selection criteria include:

  • Magnitude and significance of the technical contributions
  • Sustained contributions over time (> 20 years)
  • Recognition within the USW community (includes external awards, technical committee chairs, patents, publications, etc.)
  • Related technical efforts in the development of USW technical excellence (mentoring, teaching, STEM activity, etc.)

Notification Process: Upon approval from the EB, all nominating organizations shall be contacted via email within 5 days.  The Award winner(s) shall receive follow-on correspondence to arrange for conference attendance.  Registration fees for the NDIA USW Fall Conference will be waived for the Award Recipient.
