Energy and Climate Committee

Theme: Exploring the Intersection(s) of Energy, Climate Change and National Defense.

  • Recent federal regulatory changes, executive orders, and guidance such as the Energy Policy Act (2020), EO 14008 Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad, and the presidential memorandum Climate Change and National Security have placed increased focus on federal energy and climate goals and strategies.

  • While the actions are new, the underlying concepts are not, and understanding the full scope of the discussion is critical to devising agency-specific next steps.

  • Climate and energy risks present numerous challenges for which the U.S. defense and national security communities must account, from a detrimental impact on military readiness and federal infrastructure to potential supply chain disruptions.
