NDIA applauds Congress for veto override, support of troops and defense

1/1/2021

ARLINGTON, VA -- The National Defense Industrial Association issues the following statement on the congressional veto override:

NDIA commends Congress for its overwhelming vote to override the veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). With tallies of 322-87 in the House and 81-13 in the Senate, the bipartisan votes in both chambers demonstrate that national defense and support for our service members remain unifying values.

Aptly named for Rep. William M. “Mac” Thornberry, who has dedicated his legislative career to strengthening America’s defenses, the Fiscal Year 2021 NDAA supports our warfighters, deters great power competitors and invests in future capabilities necessary to extend of our nation’s advantages.

The NDAA also tackles critical issues like cybersecurity; recent breaches attributed to Russia highlight the need for Defense Department reform vital to realigning our policies, organization and resourcing to the National Defense Strategy.

With many hard choices to come, we hope the bipartisan momentum of this vote carries through to the 117th Congress and the incoming Biden administration.
