NDIA statement on Northrop Grumman GBSD announcement
ARLINGTON, VA – Hawk Carlisle, president and CEO of the National Defense Industrial Association, issues this statement on the announcement of the contract award for the U.S. Air Force’s Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program:
“NDIA congratulates the U.S. Air Force and Northrop Grumman Corporation on the award of the GBSD program. This culminates a long competition and results in a team of more than 300 businesses – most of them small companies – that will work under Northrop Grumman’s leadership on this vital system.
“This is not about one company; this is an ecosystem. More than 10,000 people nationwide, in nearly every state of the union, will work on GBSD in diverse roles from software development to construction. The expertise that small businesses and skilled trade workers bring to this project is the foundation of our defense industrial base. The tradesmanship and high-tech manufacturing will provide excellent jobs and training, at a time the country needs it the most.”
GBSD will replace the LGM-30 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile system. The Air Force made the award after meticulous analysis and strong competition. This system will ensure the full triad of America’s nuclear deterrent remains safe and effective for another generation.
