Introduction
“Evolving the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) for the 21st Century”
Enhanced Company Operations (ECO) in Hybrid Warfare and its Impact on the Elements of the MAGTF
The MAGTF remains a fundamentally sound construct for task-organizing and employing Marine Corps forces across the range of military operations. However, given the nature of the hybrid challenge, recent operational experience, and the historical insights provided by the Small Wars Manual, current tables of organization and equipment, as well as select tactics, techniques, and procedures, must be refined in order to ensure that MAGTFs possess sufficient ability to:
- Overcome challenges to access and mobility;
- Employ, support, and sustain subordinate maneuver units at extended distances,
or in compartmentalized terrain which creates physical separation, from higher
and adjacent units;
- Interact effectively with local populations to understand a given situation and
ensure tactical actions support strategic goals;
- Perform multiple, diverse, and often simultaneous tasks across the range of
military operations.
Industry attendees will receive briefs in the following areas:
- Requirements generation trends and issues within the Marine Corps – Marine
Corps Command Development Command (MCCDC)
- Hybrid Warfare Threat Brief (unclassified) – Marine Corps Intelligence Agency
(MCIA)
- Hybrid Warfare Defined – Noted Author on the future of warfare
- Enhance Company Operations and MCWL Initiatives – Marine Corps Warfighting Lab
(MCWL)
- August 25th Dinner at the Clubs of Quantico – Marine Corps System Command
(MCSC)
The above briefings, combined with posted read-aheads, will set the stage for attendees to be organized into three Wargame Cells and address topics for the following elements of the MAGTF: Ground Combat Element (GCE), Aviation Combat Element (ACE), and the Logistic Combat Element (LCE). Each Wargame Cell will form solutions to specific questions/topics relative to their respective MAGTF Element assigned. Each cell will additionally address a common set of questions regarding ECO’s impact on the Command Element. Each cell will outbrief their solutions to a select group of Marines and government civilians representing MCCDC, CDD, MCWL, and MCSC.
