This Workshop will be held at the SECRET/U.S. ONLY classification. A security clearance is required for admittance. Please refer to the instructions on the red "Security Clearance" tab.

The NDIA C4ISR Division will convene a DoD Hard Problems Workshop featuring Mr. Al Shaffer, Principal Deputy, ASD(R&E), along with Senior Technologists and Scientists, who will present to Industry what has been identified as “hard problems” facing the Department of Defense as it addresses the post Afghanistan/Iraq defense drawdown. 

This Workshop will examine the challenges of the global security environment and identify specific challenges that have been identified as hard problems facing the DoD.  The workshop will provide an opportunity for industry to gain an in depth understanding of these problems at a classified level.

Driving From Northern Virginia: Take I-395 North toward Washington. Take the interstate 395 N exit toward Capitol Hill/Verizon Centre/Nationals Park. Merge onto I-395 N. Continue onto Southwest Fwy. Take the exit toward So. Capitol St./Nationals Park. Merge onto S Capitol St. SW. Slight right toward M St. SE. Take the 1st Left onto M St. SE. Turn left onto New Jersey Ave. SE. Federal Gateway will be on right.

Parking: The parking garage, which opens at 7AM, is located one street up from
New Jersey on 2nd St. (back entrance). Parking is also available at the Courtyard
Marriott off of 2nd St. Street parking is only available in three hour increments.

Cancellations received by Friday, October 24, 2014 will receive a refund minus a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received after Friday, October 25, 2014. Cancellations must be made in writing to Ms. Molly Holt at Substitutions to this event are welcome in lieu of cancellations, provided a security clearance has been submitted.

Attendee Information

Security Restrictions and Note-taking
Photographic equipment, audio/visual recording devices, briefcases, two-way pagers, and cellular phones will be strictly prohibited. Classified note-taking will not be permitted. Attendees may bring in the printed meeting agenda and a notebook to write down unclassified information only, such as Speaker contact information. Attendees may bring in a small purse or handbag, as long as all electronic devices have been removed. Briefcases will be stored in a security area and may not be taken into the meeting room. Attendees who wish to receive classified materials must work with the presenter to obtain that material outside the scope of the Workshop.

Appropriate dress for this Workshop is business for civilians and Class A uniform or uniform of the day for military personnel.

ID Badge
During registration and check-in, each Attendee will be issued an identification badge. Please be prepared to present a valid picture ID. Your badge must be worn at all functions.

Security Clearance

This Workshop will be held at the SECRET/U.S. ONLY classification. A security clearance is required for admittance.

DoD and DoD Contractors will use JPAS for clearances. Contractors and Agencies who do not have JPAS will use the paper Security Certification Form (see below) for clearances.

Clearances must be received by Monday, October 27, 2014. This is a firm deadline. Persons whose security forms are received after this deadline cannot be assured access and will travel to the workshop site at their own risk of being denied access.
