About the Conference

The ability of robots to save lives has secured a path for ground robotics’ future alongside the warfighter. Ground robotics, rapidly adopted during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, has enabled the U.S. and its allies to be more effective, efficient, and protected in a range of different missions, such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Combat Engineering, and Reconnaissance. With a waning defense budget, uncertainty of future budgets, and a leaner military force, an opportunity presents itself for new, efficient and effective technologies, to continue to extend and complement the warfighter’s capabilities. It’s more important than ever to bring together industry leaders and service-users, on one stage, in order to explore these emerging trends and determine, “What does the Next Era of Ground Robotics Hold?”

The purpose of the 2014 Ground Robotics Capabilities Conference & Exhibition is to provide a forum for Industry and Government to have an honest dialogue for identifying the technologies that will be able to meet the future needs of the warfighter.

Shuttle Service
The shuttle service is available to all hotel guests on a first come first serve basis. It will go to any location within a 5 mile radius. You would need to call the Front Desk if you need to be picked up from or taken to any location within that 5 mile radius. If the shuttle is out on another run the Front Desk will let you know that and will give an approximate time it will be there to pick you up. If they have several requests at one time then they will take everyone at that time and stop at each place along the way. The van seats 12 people.

Demonstrations of Cutting-Edge Robotic Systems

Call for Demos

The Ground Robotics Capabilities Conference & Exhibition provides the preeminent opportunity to display your groundbreaking products to an audience of the leading decision makers in government and industry. Successful demonstrations will ensure our theme “What does the Next Era of Ground Robotics Hold?” is conveyed to all conference participants. Demonstrate your newest and most innovative technologies to leaders in the field of development, acquisition and procurement, experienced users and Warfighters, first responders and law enforcement.  Take advantage of this unique opportunity to gain direct feedback from senior officials responsible for providing improved capabilities to those entrusted with our country’s safety in the fields of defense, security, logistics, medical support, hazardous disposal, homeland security, training and education. Demonstrations that go beyond the currently fielded warfighting solutions and investigate the use of robots for other purposes (e.g. logistics, support, service, etc.) are highly encouraged.

Demonstrations of new, innovative robotic technologies will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 13.  It is anticipated that up to 6 systems will be demonstrated.

The guidelines for a proposed demonstration are:

Outdoor Demonstrations

  • The robot must be able to safely operate within a 30’ x 30’ area.
  • Demonstrations should be no longer than 15 minutes.
  • The demos must be accompanied by an MC, who can accurately describe to the audience what they are watching.

Interested organizations should upload their demonstration concepts by Friday, June 13, 2014 via the NDIA website at the following link and complete all required information:

Concepts (abstract text) should include:

  • Brief description of the proposed robot demonstration.
  • Responses to the following questions:
    1. What is the minimal area (ft x ft) required to set up in the staging area?
    2. Will the robot be able to be shut down quickly in case there are radio conflicts?  If so, what is the time to re-boot the robot?
    3. Is the robot or OCU battery-powered or shore-powered?  If shore-powered, what are the power requirements (volts, max amps)? Please provide details on the robot’s power needs and its basic operation.
    4. Is there an emergency-stop for the robot that cuts the main power to all drive motors on the robot?
    5. Are any props required for your proposed demonstration?
