“Designing for Survivability Throughout the Life the Aircraft” is the theme of Aircraft Survivability Symposium 2012. The goal of this three day, classified Symposium is to foster the technical exchange of information on current and emerging threats and the aircraft technologies being developed and tested for surviving these threats. This Symposium will focus on applying the lessons learned from the recent conflicts to address new requirements and fiscal constraints that challenge the survivability programs of tomorrow’s manned and unmanned aircraft. Technology focus areas include: analysis of current and future threats to aircraft; survivability in the low, mid, and high battlespace; emerging vulnerability and susceptibility reduction technologies; development of improved countermeasures; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear survivability; and the development of new tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) by the warfighter. During the three day Symposium (separate fee for Tutorial Session on day one), senior government and industry Keynote Speakers will address the effects of recent operations on Aircraft Survivability requirements, and how developing and existing programs are being affected. Government and industry experts will discuss innovations and new products that will enhance aircraft survivability in the future.

The Symposium will also feature a SECRET/U.S. ONLY poster paper venue.  The poster papers will complement the theme of the event and present details on specific project and technology accomplishments.  Poster papers will also provide the opportunity for extended one-on-one discussions in a classified environment outside of the Symposium auditorium.

RADM Robert H. Gormley Combat Survivability Award for Leadership
This award is presented to a person who has made major leadership contributions to combat survivability. The individual selected must have demonstrated outstanding leadership in enhancing overall combat survivability or played a significant leadership role in a major aspect of survivability design, program management, research and development, test and evaluation, modeling and simulation, education or the development of standards. The emphasis of this award is on demonstrated superior leadership over an extended period.
 
Combat Survivability Award for Technical Achievement
This award is presented to a person who has made a significant technical contribution to any aspect of survivability. It may be presented for a specific achievement or for exceptional technical excellence over an extended period. Individuals at any level of experience are eligible for this award.

Technical Presentations Submittal Deadline: Friday, June 29, 2012
Technical presentations and focused poster papers have been the lifeblood of this Symposium. Once again, Aircraft Survivability Symposium 2012 will offer a mixture of selected and invited presentations. This mixture will provide a well-balanced range of perspectives from experts in intelligence, acquisition and technology development from both government and industry. The forum will also provide an opportunity for individuals to present, in a SECRET/U.S. ONLY classified environment, their perspectives on key topics to a broad spectrum of influential observers and key decision-makers, including practicing engineers, analysts and evaluators of all levels in government and industry.

Poster Papers Submittal Deadline: Friday, June 29, 2012
Aircraft Survivability Symposium 2012 will feature a SECRET/U.S. ONLY poster paper venue. The Symposium Planning Committee is currently seeking poster papers which complement the theme of the event and present details on specific project and technology accomplishments. They should enable exposition of detailed information that may not be appropriate for the oral presentation format used in the General Session. Poster papers will also provide the opportunity for extended one-on-one discussions in a classified environment outside of the Symposium auditorium.
