Introduction

As worldwide terrorism persists and U.S. Armed Forces remain engaged in operations spanning the full spectrum of conflict, military services continue to pursue a balanced effort to sustain a capable current force while preparing for future materiel-requirements. With the bulk of our ground forces currently engaged in stability operations, the future role of Combat Vehicles has come under intense scrutiny.

This year’s Combat Vehicles Conference is focused to provide insights into defining an investment strategy for the future of heavy forces. The conference will include program updates on selected Army and Marine Corps Combat Vehicles from the respective program experts.

The Donn A. Starry Award
NDIA is honoring the memory of the late General Donn A. Starry, USA (Retired), by commissioning an award in his name. Widely known for his contributions in authoring and developing the post-Vietnam era ‘AirLand Battle’ doctrine that had the effect of modernizing how the U.S. Army equipped, trained and fought its armed forces, General Starry's bold leadership in attacking the status quo and embarking upon an innovative doctrine that would drive both organizational and technological change throughout every level of the Army, and also deep into the formations and technology of the U.S. Air Force, resulted in his gaining the well-deserved reputation of a visionary and military intellectual.

In honor of his significant achievement, the inaugural presentation of the General Donn A. Starry Award will take place during the Combat Vehicle Conference with the award being presented posthumously to General Starry. Thereafter, the award will be presented annually to recognize and honor outstanding leadership, achievement or accomplishment in the development or application of military doctrine, tactics or technology related to armed warfare and contributing to innovation, evolution or modernization of how the United States equips, trains and employs its armed forces.
