Insensitive Munitions and Energetic Materials

Insensitive Munitions & Energetic Materials Committee

Mission

The mission ofthe Committee is to gather technical information pertainent to Insensitive Munitions and Energetic Materials (IM/EM) and exchange that technical information in an open forum. The Committee solicits information from government agencies, academic institutions and industry throughout the world.

The Committee actively seeks 1M/EM information on policy and practices; design, development, production and deployment of munitions and materials; the evaluation of the properties of the munition/material including safety/hazards, chemical/compatibility/ageing and physical properties.

Examples of munitions and materials include, but are not limited to: warheads, bombs, missiles, torpedoes, mines, projectiles, high explosives, propellants and pyrotechnic charges.

The Committee partners with the NATO Munitions Safety Information Analysis Center (MSIAC) in Brussels, Belgium to further the 1M/EM mission. The means by which the information is exchanged is a symposium that is held every 18 months at various venues in the US. Every third symposium is produced by the Insensitive Munitions European Manufacturers Group (IMEMG), Paris, France, and the symposium is held in a member country.
