Under Secretary for Industry and Security Eric Hirschhorn of the U.S. Department of
Commerce updated members of NDIA on the President's export control reform initiative.
Since August 2009, the Bureau of Industry and Security at the Department Commerce,
along with counterparts at the Departments of Defense and State, have been engaged in
a substantial review and re-write of U.S. export control regulations, which involves the
transfer of jurisdiction of militarily less sensitive items from the jurisdiction of the
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) to the more flexible Export Administration
Regulations (EAR). Under Secretary Hirschhorn would like to update NDIA members on
the status of the review of the control list categories and answer any questions members
may have. You can learn more about export control reform by visiting
