General
The NDIA-sponsored UID ILAG was organized in March 2005 at the suggestion of the DoD UID Program Manager to serve as a defense industry focal point for government-industry collaboration and coordination in developing UID implementation policy and procedures. As UID implementation gathered momentum across defense industry, the ILAG assumed the additional role of serving as a forum for defense industry participants to discuss common implementation challenges, solutions and lessons learned. Today the ILAG serves as the principal structure for strategic level collective industry input to the UID Program Office for UID implementation policy and procedures.
The UID ILAG in composed of prime defense contractor representatives who perform corporate-level lead roles in UID implementation within their respective companies. The UID ILAG is intended to be a strategic-level forum addressing such UID-related issues as:
- Part marking, technology, methodologies, verification and validation
- Common implementation guidance 'flow down' to sub-prime suppliers
- Data flow to the UID registry
- Contract requirements and implications
- Advocacy for common methodologies, 'tool sets' and techniques for defense industry-wide employment
Periodic meetings are conducted with representatives of the UID Program Office and other government offices and agencies (DCMA, DAU, etc.) involved in UID policy development and implementation. Primary industry participants include Bell Helicopter-Textron, Boeing, GE-Aviation, Honeywell, L-3 Vertex Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon and Rockwell Collins. Participation in the UID ILAG is voluntary and is open to all defense industry companies who have a desire to contribute to the work of the Group.
The UID ILAG is sponsored and facilitated by the National Defense Industrial Association which organizes meeting sessions, coordinates agenda development, manages the ILAG Action Item List and distributes meeting materials to participants as well as a broader distribution list of interested defense industry and government parties.
