Mission
- To be the focal point and coordinating element within NDIA for the identification, study, and resolution of technology, operations, management, and business issues associated with government policy and practice in national security space activities.
- To serve as an effective vehicle for the exchange of views and information between government and industry on all matters of common concern relating to space.
- To provide, in cooperation with government elements, collective industry viewpoints, recommendations, and advice on matters of national security interest regarding space.
- To foster mutual understanding and effective working relationships between government and industry for the purpose of ensuring effective and reliable space support to national security objectives.
Operations: The Space Division provides a continuing forum for communications, discussion, and exchange of views with the government on all manners of space activities through the conduct of periodic meetings, conferences, symposia, and studies to carry out its mission. The division works jointly and coordinates with NDIA chapters and other divisions and U.S. defense and government agencies in activities relating to space matters. It maintains close liaison with other industry associations, professional societies, universities, and other groups with similar interests in meeting its mission objectives.
Key Policy Areas
The NDIA Space Division addresses numerous key areas of interest including: Cost Reduction and Cost Credibility of Space Programs; Space Operations; Space Industry Information Programs; Strategic Defense Initiatives; Space Policy and Strategy; and, Space Research, Development, and Technology.
Senior officials in such organizations as the Under Secretary of the Air Force for Space, the United States Strategic Command, the Air Force Space Command National Reconnaissance Office, 14th Air Force, NASA, Space and Naval Systems Command, Office of Naval Research, USAF Special Projects, the USAF Space and Missile Systems Center, and the Air University, all participate in various Division sessions on these topics, and others that are of concern, to provide all the relevant and cogent positions an issues of importance to both government and Industry.
Through their regular and personal involvement, the senior leaders of the nation's space programs verified the significant impact that the NDIA Space Division has on national space strategies and policy matters.
